Volunteer teaching, online

Teach a small group, online, after work

Many volunteer teaching roles run during school and office hours. Ours run at any hour you choose, evenings and weekends included, so working people can teach too. Every session is a supervised group, with a second adult present.

What teaching with Saath Foundation looks like

  • Small groups, never one to one. You teach a small group of children.
  • A second adult on every call. A Saath Foundation staff member or trained assistant joins every session.
  • Slots that suit you. Sessions can run on any day, at any hour, evenings and weekends included. You choose the 4-hour blocks you can give.
  • On SelfEnabler only. You never need to share your number or social media. Every class runs on SelfEnabler, our teaching partner's classroom app, and you open it from your Saath Foundation account.
  • Subjects: Maths, English, Science, Hindi and other subjects
  • Classes: Class 5 to college: Classes 5–7, 8–10 and 11–12, and higher classes
  • Languages: English, Hindi or another language (Hindi-medium teachers are especially welcome)

What we ask of you

2 hours a week, for at least one school term. Children do best when the same teacher shows up every week.

From application to your first class

Here's every step, and roughly how long each one takes. You'll see where you are at any time in your volunteer account.

  1. Apply

Fill in the form (about 10 minutes).

    Usually takes 10 minutes

  2. Application review

Our Volunteer Coordinator reads it and replies.

Usually takes up to 5 working days

  3. Short call

A 20-minute video call about your subjects, slots and why you'd like to teach.

    Usually takes within 1 week

  4. ID, two references and police verification

Upload your ID, give two references (not family), and apply for police verification. We'll guide you.

Usually takes 2 to 3 weeks (it depends on the police)

  5. Safeguarding training

An online module, then a short quiz.

    Usually takes about an hour

  6. Code of Conduct

Read and sign the Volunteer Code of Conduct.

    Usually takes 10 minutes

  7. Matching

We match you to a group by subject, language, class and your slots.

    We'll confirm this soon

  8. First session

Your first class, with the staff member there to help.

If matching takes longer than expected, we'll tell you why and offer something useful in the meantime.

Why we ask for police verification

Because children's safety comes before our convenience, and before yours.

We check volunteers the way the law expects organisations to check staff who work with children. It's one more step, and we'll help you through it.

There is no fee for police verification.

The rules, in plain words

  1. Teach only on the session links Saath Foundation provides.
  2. Never contact a child outside a session, and never share your contact details.
  3. Don't take photos, screenshots or recordings of children.
  4. Don't give children gifts or money.
  5. If a child tells you something worrying, tell our Safeguarding Officer the same day.

Questions about teaching

Do I need to be a trained teacher?

No. You need to know your subject, be patient, and show up. Our training covers the rest.

Can I teach just one child?

No. For children's safety, all our sessions are small groups with a second adult present.

What do I need?

A laptop or tablet, a steady internet connection and a quiet place. A phone screen is too small for teaching.

What if I have to miss a session?

Tell your coordinator before the session, so the children aren't left waiting.

I live outside India. Can I teach?

Yes, you can teach from outside India. You'd need a police check from your country of residence too.

Your subject. Their evening. 2 hours a week.
